Copywriting is about your company, your products and your customers ... its not about me
Then again, we all like to hear a story, don't we? And it turns out that a biography page is one of the most visited site pages. So, here's my story so far, if you're interested ...
Hello, I’m Steve and I’m a Professional Copywriter.
If you’re a detail person then check out my LinkedIn profile www.linkedin.com/in/steveridley1 but, if you’re in a hurry, then here’s a potted version:
Account management, business development and sales.
Corporate communications and product marketing.
Created and presented content at high profile events, including the iconic BT Tower.
Specialist writer in telecommunications and managed IT services/solutions.
Serial target overachiever and lover of deadlines.
PhD in English Literature, but I’m a business writer ... the academic writing was for fun.
If you’re still reading then perhaps you’d like to know some more?
As a Business Development Director forming lasting relationships with Investment Banks in the City, a Sales Manager hitting targets year after year or a Product Marketing Manager, responsible for a multi-million-pound revenue stream employing over 100 people, I've always been at the sharp end.
Copywriting is what I do now.
The best writing doesn’t draw attention to itself and it shouldn’t be the star of the show. If it is, it becomes literature and business writing isn’t about clever words and phrases. Mind you, with a PhD in English Literature, if you want academic prose, then I’m your man … I can juxtapose some fine paradigms, if you like. No? That’s ok.
But, to write great copy for you, I need to do the hard yards. Research, reading, drafting, editing, proof-reading … just like I did for my PhD. Big difference, of course, is that this is business and not academia and business is where I’ve spent my whole career.
Last year I completed a Diploma in Copywriting with The Blackford Centre and, for the first time in my life, I passed something with a distinction. So, I’ve got business experience and qualifications and I’m ready to roll.
I live in the beautiful cathedral city of Ely with my wife, two daughters and a bonkers cockapoo. I’ve been a homeworker for most of my professional life and it’s great … less travel, environmentally friendly and a cool work life balance. I’m more productive too because I don’t spend hours a week commuting somewhere to sit at a desk.
I like yoga, cricket, reading, music, cooking, pasta, making lists and stationery (don’t ask). Oh, and I can juggle.
Steve proofread my book and audited website copy. His ability to fully understand my intention and to express it in a fuller and richer way, that specifically compliments me personally, suggests utter class! He totally loves the English language and is a Master at it! I am working on my next project and will most certainly call on Steve again because I am an NLP Coach and believe in getting help from the very best.
